About the Blog
There are a lot of things that annoy me. People trying to pay with exact change at the grocery store. Stubbing my toe on the same door jamb in my apartment at least once per week. And Monday mornings waiting in line at Starbucks.
But something that has bothered me for years is the reporting of science in the media. It seems that news outlets are becoming less concerned with reporting facts and are only concerned with increasing ratings. So science news stories are often given low priority, poor representation, or just straight up bad reporting.
Perhaps most infuriating though, its the increasing prevalence of pseudoscience in the media. Whether it be a sighting of strange lights in the sky, Bigfoot, psychics, ghosts, and the like. These stories may grab attention, but perpetuate poor knowledge of real science and lack of critical thinking.
In this blog I will be discussing how science is treated in the media and what could be done to make improvements. I will also discuss current science and pseudoscience news stories from a skeptical viewpoint, as well as how you can take action to help spread good critical thought and skeptical analysis throughout the community. We can all make a difference in the fight against bad science.
By imparting a small bit of wisdom, even a quantum of knowledge, we can make difference.
